The Curse of the Holiday Happy Hour

Friday night at 5pm once again began the start of the Holiday Happy Hour, hosted this year by Bernard and Kenneth in Verona. After another snow day (yay no work), Jeremy and I were looking forward to heading over for the Holiday Happy Hour. We loaded up the Focus and headed out. When we got there--we quickly realized we were the first ones there!! Woohoo!

The drinks began flowing, people started arriving and the fun started. Kenny had made a $hit ton of jello shots and the Teter's brought some apple pie shots. After having one of each (and I do mean, one of each FLAVOR), the dreaded flip cup began....girls vs guys!!

Holy crap we kicked ass. We had some newbies on the team but the girls dominated. Of course, when boys try cheating (a.k.a Bra elbowing me and pushing me over because he knew I was going to beat him) we still win!!

Now, I think this is where the trouble for me began. Let me explain....usually, a normal person plays flip cup with beer. I do not drink beer, so I was playing with bacardi and diet coke. Hmmm, this was really a great idea.

We ended up back upstairs and I started feeling like I might need some fresh air. This has happened to me before at last year's holiday happy hour. I told Bernard I was heading outside to possibly release some tension in my tummy, but once I got out there, I immediately felt better (and for the record, did NOT get sick!!). However, my trouble was already in motion...after deciding to head back inside, I turned to step up on the step in front of the door, when all of a sudden, I'm down! Now, I take full responsibility for having decided to wear my black pointy shoes but damn that concrete was slick...

I slowly stand up thinking "Oh shit, did I hurt my back" because seriously, how many freaking times am I gonna fall down AFTER HAVING BACK SURGERY?!?! But luckily my back felt fine. I head in and see Bra and Lundo and of course they thought I was out there puking my guts out but low and behold, I was rolling around on the ground.

I came into the house, sat down at the kitchen table and started to fell the intense pain in my foot. OMG why does my foot hurt so bad?? The tears immediately begin...completely out of my control. Jon Coffey sees me start to cry and then I think motioned to Jeremy or something to come over and check on me. At this point, I let him know we need to get the hell out of there because my foot hurts like hell! In a flash, Holiday Happy Hour 08 was over....

See, when I fell outside, I hit the top of my foot on the concrete step. What I didn't know until I got home and took my shoe and sock off was that I had gashed my foot in three places and it was beginning to bruise and swell up. I was pretty sure it wasn't broken but wow, it hurt.

It has gotten better each day so I'm sure i'll be fine, but I must seriously be the clumsiest person EVER. So thank you B and Kenny for a great party. I had a ton of fun until the end of the night. Next year i'll wear full padding gear so no injuries will ensue!!

I've been a Steelers fan since I was very young and still am to this day. They are playing the hardest schedule in the NFL this year and are doing great!

Disappointment all around

Black Friday = Complete Disappointment this year!!

My sister and I have been going out at the ass-crack of dawn to go get some super good deals and get ALL of our Christmas shopping done in one day! This year...it totally sucked!!

Our first stop was Kohls-we arrived at 3:45am, waited in line, got in, got our stuff we wanted, checked out by 4:50am. Not bad...I was still optimistic at this point.

Next we swung over to American to try and get one of the red laptop deals advertised in the flier. Now I'm not completely naive to think that I was for sure gonna get one of these but I knew there were lots of TVs on sale so I was hoping people would be going to get those. We got there and were 12th in the 'Laptop/Computer' line. I was still hopeful at this point. AFTER 1 hour of waiting, I get to the front thinking, well there's got to be one of these left considering there were only 12 people in front of me, what are the chances they ALL wanted that laptop--well apparently those chances were really good. SOLD OUT! Argh--I walk away from American, 1 hour later, empty handed....

Now i'm just pissed, but yet, we press on. Next stop, Target. Since we were delayed at American, we get to Target 15 minutes after opening. YIKES. I have NEVER seen the parking lot as full as it was this year. In all the years I have been coming to Target, this was the worst I had seen it. Guess how many of the items I wanted were sold out.....THREE. OMG now i'm really just pissed. I can hardly control myself. We check out there (the line moves rather quickly here thank god) at 7:15am.

Next stop, Walmart! I scored one here by getting the LAST bag of extra big lego blocks for $10 for my nephew. I thought they were sold out but after pursuing the toy aisle, I stumbled upon the blocks in the wrong spot. Score one for me! However, the remaining three items on my list at Walmart....GONE.

Final stop before breakfast, Farm and Fleet. My favorite part about Farm and Fleet is the parking lot (can you sense the sarcasm here...). All I could muster up to buy here was a shovel...

Breakfast break at McDonalds....then around 10am we head to Michaels to get me some Christmas decorations for my new pad. Nothing eventful happened here.

Break time--nap, wrap gifts...head to ShopKo and Hobby Lobby. Break again, dinner, we head BACK out to the mall, grab a couple minor things and we finally arrive home for good at 9:45pm!! Whew what a day!

Overall, the deals were disappointing and I have to say it was the most crowded Black Friday I have ever participated in. However, in the end, my sister and I had a chance to hang out all day and enjoy some time together so even though I didn't get all my deals (or hardly any of them!) it was still worth waking up at 2am (I woke up early because I couldn't sleep, too excited I guess!) and shopping all day.

I look forward to next year....

Christmas Movie Classics

Recently I have been thinking about Christmas movies a lot due to the weather and quickly approaching Black Friday. Plus, I've seen a few Christmas movies on the Family channel as their Countdown to Christmas has arrived! It all got me thinking about some of my favorite movies to watch in the month of December. I admit it, i'm a sucker for cheesy, absolutely no-point, ridiculous Christmas movies. I luv them all, but here are some of my favorites...

I think everyone enjoys a good helping of The Christmas Story. This is usually on for 24 hours straight on Thanksgiving. I try to watch it at least twice. It still makes me crack up every time at the part when Ralphie and his brother get bundled up for school and he can't put his arms down. Oh the memories...

And I can't help but give a shout out to the plethora of cartoon Christmas movies. Two of my favs are How the Grinch Stole Christmas and A Charlie Brown Christmas. You can't help but feel bad for Charlie's pathetic Christmas tress with no needles and one lonely ornament on it!

ELF with Will Ferrell is SUPER hilarious and one of the more recent Christmas classics. I highly recommend this movie to anyone. "You look very purple-ly today!"

I just saw this movie the other day, The Santa Clause. I had forgotten how much I liked this movie. Its super cheesy and really just ridiculous but I find it very cute and funny. There are two more of these movies but I have to say that this one is my favorite of the three. The little boy in this movie is so cute!

Another recent hit that I don't think will quite reach 'classics' status, and most people won't even watch, but I luv it, is Christmas with the Kranks! Another Tim Allen Christmas movie. Jamie Lee Curtis is also in this and she is super annoying but the movie as a whole is pretty funny. I like it when her honey ham rolls out of her shopping cart, through the parking lot, around cars, and into the street where oops! a big semi truck just happens to be driving. Totally lame but again, great for a night of Christmas movies.

Home Alone (the original) is another Christmas classics that I'll make sure to watch this December. Although no one actually likes McCauley Culkin, he does a fine job in this movie! I just think its funny--all his antics and tricks!

Finally, probably my favorite Christmas classic and one that I make sure to watch at least a few times is Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. OMG, I laugh through this entire movie. Its just full of hilarious points. I have so many favorite parts in this movie I can't even pick one to share. I"m sure you've all seen this but if for some reason you haven't, this is my top pick for Christmas!

I'd be curious to hear your favorite Christmas movies...

This is an example of what NOT to do after you've had back surgery 2.5 months ago: Hoist your BFF on your back in the middle of the bar! Hmm, do you think maybe alcohol might have played a role in this debacle!

Fantasy Football Rollarcoaster!

This year I joined the millions of other people and participated in a fantasy football league. My team name (which I share with Jeremy) is Chef Tony. I was unable to go to the draft this year because I was immobile in bed, but Jeremy went for us and drafted a decent team. We have Randy Moss, TJ Houshmandzadeh, Matt Ryan, Deuce McAllister, Hines Ward, and the Pittsburgh defense, along with some other less important players.

Well Randy Moss has proved to be a HUGE disappointment this year after Brady got injured.

Houshmandzadeh has more off weeks then good weeks. We made a couple trades and picked up some other good players in D'Angelo Williams, Kevin Faulk, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

Matt Ryan has proved to be quite good as our starting QB. We also had Marc Bulgar who again, complete disappointment, but luckily we made the trade of the century to my buddy Steve. We traded Bulgar for D'Angelo Williams...the next week, Williams scored 22 points, Bulgar scored -1. Awesome!

Long story short, our record (including this weekend) is 3-8 :( I am very sad about this. Each week we lose I get more and more pissed. However, the last two weeks, our team has lost by 1 point each week!! How shitty is that?!?! We are three spots out of making the play offs and I'm really hoping to win the next two weeks!!

But I do love football season and this has been a good way to get more interested in the other games besides only the Steelers. Each week I go back and forth to hating fantasy football and then loving it. Its pretty fun! Hopefully we'll make the play offs and get to keep the season going three extra weeks!

Weekend Shout-Outs

I haven't done this in a while so instead of dredging up all the details of the weekend, I'll just do my weekend shout-outs to everyone that did something cool this weekend...

1. A big shout out goes to my sister for actually wanting to go out on her birthday and celebrate. Hope you had fun!

2. Thanks to dad for buying the pizza for the birthday dinner!

3. A negative shout out goes to Ben Jung for organizing a pub crawl but not giving out all the details :(

4. Thanks to B for making the LONG trip from the Middleton area to come hang with us!

5. Thanks to DJ Decker for embarrassing my sister at the tavern by playing happy birthday and making her face turn bright red!

6. A big negative shout out to Kristin's dad who said NO FIRE this weekend--just for that, I broke your favorite coffee mug. So there!!

7. Thanks to Kim's sister for not knowing her geography AT ALL. I'm glad we have teachers like this teaching America's children :)
8. Thanks to Heather for reminding me that Syracuse is in California....hmmmm

9. A big shout out to Greta T for being the WORST charades player on earth. One movement and she'd get pissed at us for not knowing it and bitch! Luv ya

10. And finally, a big shout out to Steve W for making the worst trade decision ever-I gave him Marc Bulgar for D'Angelo Williams, -1 points vs 22 points this week. Thanks much--I might actually win one this week :)

Absolut Los Angeles

I saw an ad for this a while ago and have yet to find it--its Absolut Los Angeles. Its a limited edition vodka with all-natural blueberry, acai berry, acerola cherry and pomegranate. I am DYING to try this. Has anyone tried this yet? I'm determined to get my hands on this and when I do, I'll give you a full review.

Homecoming Shenanigans

Every so often a day comes along where you never dreamed it possible, yet somehow, it happens and its everything you ever imagined. Ha--ok it wasn't that dramatic but homecoming this past Saturday was hilarious!!

Ryan, Nate, Grade and I headed downtown to meet at my godfather's tailgate at 9am. I believe we cracked our first bacardi and diet at 9:02am!! It was a small crew for Badger homecoming but we managed to keep ourselves entertained. My godfather always has us out at his tailgate before the game for good and drinks. At game time, we took the LONG walk from Lathrop St to Bucks on Reagent.

By the time we arrived at Bucks, we had a pretty good buzz going and the drinks just kept coming. It was a little chilly but we braved it outside for a while, then headed in to Buck's where stuff really hit the fan. I recall walking in and immediately being bombarded by a very flamboyantly gay man who I didn't even know but he was talking to people in our group...hmm..interesting! I had all to do to keep myself from busting out laughing because apparently this guy just latches on to people at Buck's and he was trying to latch on to our group.

Anyhow, drinks, shots, lots of photos, its all a blur. We ended up staying at Buck's for the entire game and were all pretty drunk!! We needed to eat immediately and we decided to walk up to Ians for a slice. Well after I had to drag Ryan out of the bar, we started on our way up there. In all the shuffle we lost track of Ryan and a girl named Steph who had joined our group at Buck's.

Nate, Grade and I made it to Ians, waited in a long line, got a piece of pizza and were wondering where the heck Ryan and Steph were..."Brrrring" the phones start ringing....its Steph...."We're outside of Brothers (What??!) and Ryan's puking his guts out!" HA!! I just about died laughing, you see, Ryan was (and I emphasize WAS) our designated driver for the day!!

Wow--we start walking over to Brother's and arrive to this scene:

Ha--I've known Ryan a long time and never seen this sight before. It was great. So the next 1.5 hours was spent trying to get Ryan in a cab and back to McFarland. NO CAB WOULD TAKE HIM!! I was yelling, Grade was taking pictures, people were walking by and laughing....I had no choice.....I had to call him mother!

Yes, a cardinal sin against friends but I had no choice!! None of us could drive him home and it was only 3pm!! I made the dreaded call to RuthAnn and pleaded with her to come pick up her 28yr old son. Yes, we've all been there!

Ryan finally got picked up after a few more puking episodes and we continued on our way to go meet Jeremy back at Bucks. We stayed there for a while, kept reminiscing about the last few hours events, then headed to The Annex so that I could do some long overdue dance moves! Wow, yeah, I guess there's video but luckily I haven't seen it yet! Then we decided to head closer to home on the east side to go to Pedro's to watch the UFC fights.

Overall, the day/night was a blast and just hilarious! I always have a good time on Badger Saturdays and look forward to the two remaining home games. They'll be cold but SO worth it!
