Its been a long time hasn't it??

My cookie helper on Saturday. He did a super job, then took a nap, then woke up a terrible terror of a boy. I hate it when that happens! We had the annual Crisafi Cookie Day this past Saturday. I only made 4 kinds this year due to the fact that it really is only my family that eats these, and we can all agree my family certainly doesn't need all those cookies hanging around. I made chocolate chip, peanut butter kisses, craisin oatmeal and mint.

But we had a good time nonetheless. Later that evening we headed to the Fantasy of Lights, another annual Crisafi tradition and got Rocky's pizza. Yummy - I haven't had a pizza for weeks. It really is my favorite cheat food!

Its been a long time...

Its been a long time hasn't it??! There's a reason for that though. On May 12th, my nephew fractured his femur and had to be put into a hip spica cast, not once, but twice. For those who don't know, a hip spica cast starts at the chest and goes down to the toes. And depending on the doctor who does it, it can cover not only the broken leg but also the good leg.

My nephew's first cast covered both legs, but when we took him back in, the pediatric specialist re-broke the bone and put a new cast on, only going to his knee on his good leg.

Pretty terrible right?? Imagine a 3 yr old who can't walk, can't play, can't go outside, can't pee in the potty (after he finally learned how!!). Its been rough. He needs constant care because he can't get up to get anything. And he's pretty dang heavy.

He is doing ok though. The first week was really really REALLY rough. I stayed over at my dad's house to help. He would wake up with 30 minutes or so because he was having nightmares about falling down and hurting himself. It was really terrible. On top of that, it was almost impossible to get him to take any of his pain meds. We were able to trick him for a while but, as you know, that didn't last long.

Since the second surgery he is doing much better and he is no longer in pain. We bought a handy dandy wagon to cart him around so we are able to take him outside and we use this when we go to the doctor.

June 30th he gets his cast off!! The leg is going to be bowed and short, I just hope its not too bad that he has a limp. We can put a lift in his shoe until he outgrows the shortness of it but the bow would be there for years. This is why we had to have it rebroken to begin with. Without getting too graphic, the leg broke in two and the bottom piece was jutted out at a 30% angle. This is at the upper limit of acceptability. We decided as a family that we wanted the pediatric doc to try and get that straighter so his leg wouldn't be bowed at 30%. The dr was able to get it more straight and we'll find out when he takes the cast off how much the leg will be bowed out.

But for now, we try and keep him entertained each and every day. That's a big task when he can only sit up at an angle or lay down. Most of my free time has been spent over at my dads helping and relieving my sister so she can work a little or just get out and have dinner away from the house.

So to all my buds who I have been neglecting over the last month or so, I do apologize. You know me, I hate being out of the loop. I hate not being at all the events, but alas, what else could I do?! Hopefully now things will go smoothly and after June 30th we can return to normal, at least somewhat as he starts walking again. (He's pretty excited about that!). Thanks for all the well wishes and gifts. I know he appreciates them as do we.

Sarasota, FL

I traveled to FL to visit my godfather. He lives in Sarasota, FL. We completely lucked out with the weather and had some nice days so we could lay out on the beach. I could have used another 3-4 days there but it was a nice little get away.

The group at our last dinner. My godfather John and his wife gail, Andrea and myself. This nite I had crab stuffed tilapia. OMG, it was delicious! I luv getting FL seafood. Its so good and fresh.

Aside from a super unflattering quadruple chin picture, I tried my first oyster while in FL. It was steamed -- that's the only way I would do it! It wasn't too bad. I would probably never order them on my own but it wasn't too bad. Chalk it up to trying new things with food -- which for me is a pretty big deal!

Whoa Nelly

Do you ever laugh at yourself?? I laugh at myself all the time, like constantly! I do this for a lot of reasons. Mostly I laugh at myself because I say or do something really dumb and I can't help but laugh because its just that ridiculous.

The other day, I was driving in my car. For those of you who know me, you know that I have extreme road rage. Like to the max!! I yell at people like they are actually going to hear me. Anyway, I was driving and someone pulled out in front of someone else and I just said to myself "Whooooooaaa Nelly" with special attention on the whoa part! I mean, where did that come from??

Yesterday at the Brewer's home opener, I was walking down the steps and I tripped and rolled my ankle. To keep from being in extreme pain, I just laughed at myself. DUH, what an idiot.

But my favorite story of my recent idiot moves that caused me to laugh hysterically at myself is when I went online to buy some condoms. Now, I'm a single gal, you know, wanting to be prepared in case I might ever have sex again :( so I went online on Amazon.com to buy some condoms. Of course I can't just buy them in the store because, well that would be too easy right. So I'm looking online and I find one that looks like a good deal. I was in a hurry because I was at work doing this because I don't have a computer at home.

Anyway, I was in a hurry, clicked order blah blah, placed my order. Three days later I get my box from amazon and it was a pretty big box, but since I also ordered a book I figured it was bigger b/c of that. WELL, I opened the box only to find a HUGE bag full of condoms and my book. I looked at this huge bag and thought it had to be a mistake. Why on earth did they send me so many condoms??? I looked at my order form, and confirmed the next day at work. Yup, I ordered 100 condoms!! Seriously, 100!! Um, do you really think I need 100 condoms ready at all times for all this sex I'm having. OMG I just laughed and laughed at myself because it was just so ridiculous!

Moral of the story is two fold: Always double check your order EVEN IF you are in a hurry and secondly, laughing at yourself is ok and necessary. It makes the day go by :) Anyone else have any funny stories involving you laughing at yourself??

Another Fun Weekend Away

I had another fun weekend away at Kristin's parent's cabin/house in the Dells area. There were a bunch of us girls up there drinking, laughing, and being silly for a night. We lucked out with the weather and were able to be outside. I'd say this was probably the best trip we've had up there! Cheers to next year!

Pretty campfire!

All the girls (plus me) at the cabin

Ah, gotta luv it!

Here is what happens when you drink too much...in the Dells...with good friends...lots of music. Complete chaos ensues!

Lots of dancing at Marley's. Fun place...slippery floor

And then follow that up the next night by drinking and going down water slides and sitting in a hot tub...this is what happens...

The alcohol made me dance, I swear! But I did coin a new move....The Broken Bone. Its not illustrated here very well but, ya, its pretty fantastic.

Weekend Wrap-Up

I guess I have more then 3 readers of my blog :) I've been scolded by a several people for not continuing this blog, so as much as it might risk my job, I will continue!

Let's start with a weekend update. I haven't done one of those in a while. This past weekend was a fun one. Friday night I went to the gym, banged out a few miles on the treadmill then went home and watched my Friday night shows (OMG its really sad and pathetic that I have Friday night shows, really? Am I that big of a loser? Ok, don't answer that!). I watched TLC's What Not To Wear and Say Yes to the Dress and then promptly fell asleep by 10pm. Whew, I don't know that I can handle this lifestyle much longer. Its exhausting!

Saturday proved to be slightly more entertaining. Again, I went to the gym then met the crew out in Middleton. Say what??! Yes, I hung out in Middleton on Saturday. I met up at Middleton Sports Bowl and was pleasantly surprised to be handed a Madison BOGO drink book from my favorite valentine. Thanks B!

We watched the Badger's embarrass Indiana, then went 'bar hopping' in Middleton. We debated on doing this as we one of our fellow mates was pulled over leaving the Sports Bowl, but luckily it was only for a seat belt violation, in which he didn't even get a ticket! Ahead we went to Paul's Neighborhood bar. I was a Paul's virgin. It was fun. We all played pool and of course my team (Jeremy and I) sucked ass! I think I managed to get two balls in overall. I'm happy with that. Alissa and B dominated while Jenelle and her Mineral Point cop did alright.

Finally we ended the night at Club Tavern but left early because there seemed to be some old person band setting up and we were not interested in that at all. Although, we are border line old ourselves. There was talk of heading out to Outer Limits to check out the talent but it just wasn't that kind of night. Another time I'm sure.

Sunday was a great day because it was the Daytona 500!! I watched the beginning of the race at home by myself then went to babysit and got to watch my favorite driver win and my second favorite driver take second. Yeah for Jamie and Jr.! My nephew is now a big race fan and wants to be a race car driver when he grows up. That outta make his grandpa (my dad) super proud!! Ha!

Overall fun weekend. This weekend I'm looking forward to heading up to the Dells with some peeps for two nights of complete chaos. Friday nite at the Copa Cabana and Marley's and Saturday day and nite at the Chula Vista and water park. Yikes!

* I did some redecorating, or should I say, actually started decorating my condo. This year will be a new bedroom set and a kitchen backsplash!

2009 Wrap-Up

For my 3 loyal readers :) I wanted to give you a 2009 wrap-up. I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be keeping this blog as I've found it hard to keep up on it now that I have more responsibilities at work. Anyhoo, my 2009 looked like this: (in no particular order)

*I watched my Pittsburgh Steelers win the 2008/2009 Superbowl! Luv them!

*Made it through the entire year with no medical crisis!

*Moved into a new office at work, ready to get that promotion (but that will happen this year!) The new office part might see like not a big deal to most of you but because I used to sit by a super loud -80C freezer with constant noise and people around me, having a seat in an actual office with no background noise is a HUGE deal!

*Enjoyed my last birthday in my 20's. And boy was it a fun one! Oh ya, don't go swimming at 4am on a freakishly cold day at the end of August.

*Got my heart broken, still broken.

*Got to meet my favorite band of all time AND take a picture with the lead singer! I luv Tantric-yup, I do!

*Had some AWESOME camping/cabin trips this summer! Wow, how much fun were these! I can't wait to see what this summer will bring!

*Watched a few friends get married, a few get divorced and a shit load get pregnant. Ah, welcome to the late 20's, early 30's. Luckily I think this summer will be quite on the wedding front. I can't foresee any major weddings but who knows...

*Didn't get to go on a vacation in 2009. Boo to that! I'm making a resolution to NEVER let that happen again. This year will start off good by going to Vegas!

*I had a fantastic tailgate season this year, quite the rebound from last year's multiple misses with back injury and weddings. I even got to meet Wee-Man. Who knew i'd meet someone famous at a UW tailgate :)

*Bought a new car!! YES!! Long over due i'd say.

I know there are probably more things but that's a pretty good list i'd say. The year was full of great parties, fun times, some heartache, some lonely nights...but overall, I can't say it was a bad year. I learned a lot this year, mostly about myself but I also learned that I have some really great friends (not all of you!!) but some :) I also learned that some people never change. Ha, neither do I though!

I look forward to 2010. I'm not gonna make any resolutions or anything but I am hopeful (as of today, Jan 8th) that things will be better for me this year, possibly more exciting, full of great friends, great experiences and possibly a little love thrown in.
